Alfred Malibu is a an exercise in pure materiality that the team came to think of as a Zen Surf Shack.  The interior is lined with unglazed terracotta tiles which flow uninterrupted from the floor and up the walls, giving the small space a sense of unity and charm.  Clear white oak, leathered black granite, blackened metal, and Shoui Sugi Ban wood complete the carefully edited palette of materials. Nature is called in with living plants, and a geologic sculpture of angular polished steel that sits at the room's center like the rocks that breach the waterline along the Malibu shores.
